I have finally bought the car that will take us on our Journey. A 2008 KIA Sportage. My travelling companion for the entire distance will be Sherrie, my best friend since kindergarten. We talked about doing a trip around Australia when we were about 8 years old. We would talk about it in secret and with great excitement. Finally at 48 soon to be 49 we are doing it!!! Our home for the next 117 days whilst we travel from Sydney NSW to Broome WA, will be a Jayco Swift Camper Trailer. Brand new $18K. Very exciting. We plan to leave Sunday 28 April 2013. We are picking up Cherelle (our other best friend since kindergarten) at Cairns Airport and dropping her at Darwin Airport. Cherelle and Ellen will join us for 5 weeks. Fiona our other best friend, also from school will FIFO Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin and Broome. She is unable to take much time off work for a road trip but will fly in and fly out so she doesn't miss out entirely. So it's almost a school reunion on wheels. These are my oldest and dearest friends. It's lovely that at this time of our lives we can have this adventure. ETA Broome WA mid August 2013. There we will rent a house with Danielle and Daniel (my daughter and her fiance). They are currently there working in hospitality and renting a house in Broome. Sherrie and I plan to work in any industry that will accept us. My background is Finance and Sherrie's is hospitality. See what happens. We plan to stay there over Christmas & New Year before continuing our journey (with a bit more cash hopefully) for the drive back to Sydney. Danielle and Daniel will pack up in Broome and join us on the road trip back home to Sydney. So this will be one hectic road trip with friends and family.

The overall plan is to drive around Australia. Departing Sydney, April 2013. Stopping at Broome in WA for work and to restock the bank account then back to Sydney by April 2014. We estimate the trip will take 12 months.

This weekend is all about getting All terrain tyres, roof racks and a luggage pod for the KIA and other bits and pieces for the camper trailer, fondly named here on in as SWIFTY.

Sherrie and I completed a 1 day Tow-Ed course. Highly recommended. We feel we can tow and park in any place or space. We are GOOD. I also completed a bush mechanincs course down at Lithgow. Again highly recommended. I can fix anything on my car or trailer now. Lastly I did a first aid course. So I am prepared for anything. Stay tuned...............

As the mother of the FIFO component of your trip, I will watch your progress with interest. You have certainly done your homework and Brian and I wish you well for the journey.
